Making Our Seniors Matter
Cooper & Co. Ltd. Licensed Insolvency Trustee are proud to be a member of Making Our Seniors Matter (MOSM). We have been involved from the inception.
This group was founded by Glenn & Liz Cunningham with the express purpose of having a team of professionals from various industries available to seniors in need. Many seniors are subject to abuse or scams, and this trusted referral network is a positive alternative for them.
MOSM is a registered non-profit organization based in Brampton.
So what drove the creation of this group?
Part of it is out of respect for our elders. The world that they helped build and the lives they made. Giving back to those who have done so much for us.
And, sadly, because seniors are too often taken advantage of due to their trusting nature and generosity. Too many of the professionals in the group see in their work lives the results of seniors’ scams and even abuse inflicted by those closest to them. So there was a need for a group where, as Glenn puts it: “…you’d trust sending your mom to.” That’s his yardstick. Folksy. Down-to-earth.
MOSM also has close ties to the Peel Elder Abuse Prevention Network (PEAPN) and the Peel Regional Police who work to prevent elder abuse.
We are also tied to the Canadian Association of Retired Persons (CARP).
Making Our Seniors Matter have also partnered with Margaret Wallis-Duffy of Wallis For Wellness (also a longtime member of MOSM), who lends her contagious enthusiasm and skills as a TV host to a recurring radio program on WOW Living Radio. Cooper & Co. Ltd. have done two segments thus far:
Scott speaks about financial problems that seniors run into and insolvency. (starts at 2:45)
Scott chats about seniors co-signing loans and mortgages for their children, and the unique benefits and challenges this presents. (starts at 1:45)
